White Sangria

The quintessential summer cocktail: Sangria! This White Sangria recipe is the perfect refreshment for a hot summer day. After you’ve slurped up the whole glass, you get to enjoy some sangria marinated fruit! Does it get better than that?

Long days, warm nights, but nothing says summer more than sitting on a patio drinking sangria. It’s bright, sweet, fruity, and always served ice cold. Sharing it with your friends and family is even better.

This versatile cocktail will be so good no matter what ratio of ingredients you use. Throw in a little more of this, less of that, no need to measure! Have fun with this recipe and make it your own. I guarantee you’ll be back at that pitcher in no time for a second glass.

Ingredients

  • White wine – 1 bottle.
  • Ginger ale – Any brand you like best.
  • Cognac – You can instead use regular or apricot brandy, schnapps or cointreau/ Grand Marnier.
  • Lime – Fresh, cut into wedges.
  • Pineapple – Diced, with the core removed.
  • Strawberries – You can use a berry medley as well.
  • Lime cordial – This is basically a lime flavored syrup.
  • Vanilla – Trust me on this one! This will warm up the cocktail and being all the flavors together.

What type of wine should I use?

Since white wine doesn’t contain any tanins, you have a lot more options for a white sangria versus a red sangria. You really can use any type you like best!

If you’re unsure, I suggest using a light and crispy variety to really let those fruity flavors shine. Wines like Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling are all great options. If you are going to use a variety like Chardonnay, try to grab an unoaked bottle.

Can I use other fruits?

I swear sangria was created as a way to enjoy excess in-season fruits. Don’t quote me on that! Every time I make a pitcher of sangria, it’s a little bit diferent. It completely depends on what types of fruit I can find at the grocery store. Here are some fruits that will go well with your white sangria:

  • Peaches
  • Apricots
  • Mangoes
  • Apples
  • Kiwis
  • Raspberries
  • Oranges
  • Lemons

How to make white sangria

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a large pitcher or punch bowl. You can either stir the ice into the pitcher, or add ice individually as you serve glasses.

That’s it!The hardest part is chopping up that fruit. After that all you need to do is mix, pour, sip, and be merry.

If you don’t want to dilute the glasses or pitcher with melting ice, you can make your own fruit ice cubes! Freeze half the fruit called for in this recipe. Add them all at once to the pitcher, or save a few pieces in the freezer and add individually to glasses. No more watered down sangria!

Can I make sangria in advance?

Because this recipe includes ginger ale, it has a sparkling element. If you want to save yourself some time, you can prep the recipe, leaving the ginger ale out, until you’re ready to serve. Top the pitcher off with ginger ale and you have fresh, bubbly sangria ready to go in the blink of an eye!

Ingredients

  • 750 ml white wine (dry (1 bottle))
  • 2 cups ginger ale
  • 2 ounce cognac
  • 1 lime (cut into slices)
  • ½ pineapple (cut into small wedges with skin removed)
  • 1 cup strawberries (roughly chopped)
  • ¼ cup lime cordial
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups ice

Instructions 

  • Combine all ingredients into a large punch bowl or pitcher and stir well. Feel free to experiment with different liqueurs and different fruit depending on the season.
