It all started in 1993 as The Hotel Guide of San Antonio. This cool, little publication was direct-mailed to thousands of travel agents, meeting planners, national tour operators and relocation centers.
The idea was simple…target the traveler BEFORE they ventured to the Alamo City. Well, 30 years later, the same unique selling point applies.
Our goal is to introduce our readers to some of the top hotels/resorts, destinations, wellness venues, culinary escapes and starting next issue – our Relocation section rebirth.
The list is too long with regards to who to thank. It’s not often a business, much less a publication, stands the test of time and eclipses 30 years.
From San Antonio, to Austin and now the world, we are honored to bring you our award-winning style, content and more.
So, what’s in store for our anniversary year? Well, lot’s actually. You will see our distribution expand. You will notice us add our Cruises section back and begin to showcase some of the top places to live, not just visit in our Relocation section.
Additionally, our Travel Talk podcast will expand with a variety of new guests and a consistency too. Bottom line, we will evolve and continue to get better and produce a digital travel/relocation platform you can be proud of.
Cheers to another 30 years! From our family to yours, thank you for supporting us through this journey. I promise you, the best is yet to come.

Travel. Make Memories.

Nevis is an exclusive Caribbean island jewel, measuring only 36 square miles. Despite the island’s narrow scale, its lush landscape is mountainous and sits stunningly around stunning beaches. Travelers seeking to relax on a hilltop retreat, bask in a beachfront oasis, or discover the majestic culture of the Caribbean quickly realize Nevis has it all. It’s no secret that there’s always something to do. Here’s a guide to some of Nevis’ must-dos:
Adventure Themed Activities:
Nevis Island’s 3,232-foot volcano appears to be a hardly daunting rolling hill. Located at the very center of Nevis, the stratovolcano rises to 985 meters and is the highest point on the island. Hills & Valleys Hike and Tours offers a hike up to the Nevis peak for travelers seeking the ultimate scenic adventure.
In hospitable Nevis fashion, the island provides guides to lead you to the top, while exploring the native flora and fauna, such as bamboo, tropical fruits and vervet monkeys.

A taste of history is discovered through a walking tour to The Saddle Hill Battery, which was used by British Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson as a lookout point in the late 1700s. Other tour packages include tranquil hikes around the island’s natural water falls.
For travelers with a need for speed, Queen City ATV tours provide all-terrain vehicles to steer the way through the trails.
The Around The Garden Tour takes place at a 5-acre fruit farm in Cades Bay built on a park model, with picnic benches.
Guests enjoy the full farm experience, which includes a sampling of a wide variety of in-season fruits such as starfruit, passion fruit, watermelon, pineapple — and, of course, mangoes, the island favorite.
For travelers with dreams of riding horseback through the Caribbean, Nevis Equestrian Centre has been guiding travelers through beach and sunset trail rides for nearly two decades. This adventure is unmatched because of the center’s highly experienced trainers to help lead the way.
Sea Lovers…
For sea lovers, Leeward Island Charters includes a relaxing sail to the southern end of the bordering island of St. Kitts with frequent stops to swim and snorkel in the protected waters of the Caribbean sea. Catamarans are provided in an array of sizes for ultimate comfort and to suit the amount of guests.
Nevis also offers a world of possibilities for scuba diving, with dozens of reefs, wrecks, and volcanic vents to explore just minutes offshore. Biking tours are also another wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon along Nevis’ coastline, giving a unique perspective on the island’s green landscape and the towering Mount Nevis.
Wellness Experiences
For more wellness experiences, the spa treatment at one of the island’s excellent spas heightens the sense of relaxation and well-being.
At the Four Seasons Resort and Spa, travelers recharge with an array of massage services incorporating locally infused blends of Caribbean oils, scents, and spices, like The signature Nevisian Massage. Your own private paradise is offered in the Spa Under the Stars massage, which includes a romantic, outdoor, candlelit dinner in a private spa. The relaxing Ocean Breeze Beachside Treatments use the gentle breeze and the calm, crashing sound of waves to ease guests into a tranquil state of mind.
Back 2 My ROOTS SpaTique is located within the Hamilton Estate’s lush green heights near the Nevis Peak. They offer a holistic approach through organic skin care services, including: massage therapy, herbal facials, hydrotherapy, thalassotherapy and heliotherapy treatments. Guests relax in nature, as all the treatments take place outdoors, and enjoy organic refreshments from the onsite juice bar. Mountain breezes, wind chimes, and water fountains are sure to create a sense of true calm and serenity.
Montpelier Plantation Spa, surrounded by tropical gardens, is the ideal setting to revitalize the spirit. Visitors can choose from a wide range of body and facial treatments performed by certified therapists. Located on a lush plantation, the soothing sounds of nature accompany guests throughout every treatment.

Travel is back. But will it ever be the same?
My name is Adam Asher. I make documentaries and podcasts that showcase inspiring humanitarian organizations worldwide. I missed travel. I’m glad it’s back. But I hope it’s changed forever.
The pandemic was a dreadfully monumental time.

It affected everything. Regardless of how we may feel about these last couple years and all that came with them, we can agree on this: the pandemic changed our lives.
And it will forever be the point in time that separates the way it once was from the way it is.
The pandemic brought about great fear and frustration. It took loved ones and friends, opportunity and revenue. It damaged our health, our mindset, and our ability to move around. It kept the world from us. And it kept us from each other.
We’ve all suffered. What we’ve been through is a terrible thing. And I’m glad it is ending. I’m glad we now have the chance to get back to living, to build the new normal that awaits us.

But I don’t want things to be as they were. I want something more. As we seek to put this awful time in human history behind us, let us not forget what we learned from it. Let us not fall back into old patterns and perspectives. Let’s go beyond status quo.
The pandemic taught us that life is a gift, that the way things are right now is a gift. It showed us that we must live—without delay or excuse. We must make the choice to do those things that matter. We must make the time to go and explore, to see and do and love. Because life can change in an instant.

The pandemic taught us what it means to lose. The people and the opportunities we loved so much were here one day and gone the next. We had. We lost. And we were powerless to stop it. We were confronted by a reality we don’t much like yet must embrace: we are vulnerable.

Purple skies and flowing water at sunset in Guanacaste

The last two years also taught us that people are precious. We witnessed the worldwide suffering, the unthinkable toll. We watched as loved ones and strangers suffered.

It caused fear and frustration, yes. But it also brought about compassion. And compassion is good.
So much about this era will be rightfully remembered as negative. It wasn’t a good thing. But it did remind us of good things. It did teach us that we must live with a sense of gratitude for each new day. We must live in humility, aware of our own weakness and limitation. And we simply must value those around us.

As we now plan and take our next amazing trip, may we cherish it like never before. May we remember that every dinner with an ocean view is beautiful. Every cup of coffee on a mountain balcony is delicious. Every stamp in the passport is a treasure. Every moment with that loved one is precious. It’s all a gift.

My advice? Book. Go. See. And love. Remember that everyone you encounter along the way has been through one of the toughest seasons in their life. They too have lost. They too have felt powerless. And the kindness you show them will mean the world.
Travel is back. May we never be the same.

With coronavirus news unfolding minute by minute, travel insurers and travel insurance regulators have been trying to adapt policies and rules to better meet consumer needs.

On Monday, Allianz Global Assistance announced it is currently, but only temporarily, allowing specific medical and cancellation claims related to the coronavirus that are typically not covered under its plans.

“For a limited period, the company will nevertheless accommodate claims for trip cancellation and emergency medical care for customers who become ill with the coronavirus, as well as cancellation claims for customers traveling to China, South Korea, and the Lombardy and Veneto regions of Italy,” the company said in a press statement. “This is a temporary action that the company hopes will help customers who become ill or who are struggling with the decision on whether to travel to these destinations.”

Travel insurance claims due to known, foreseeable or expected events, epidemics, or for fear of travel, are typically not covered by standard travel insurance products. However, “until further notice,” the company said it will be accommodating claims for emergency medical care and emergency medical transportation for a customer who becomes ill with COVID-19 while on their trip; trip cancellation and trip interruption if a customer becomes ill with COVID-19 either before or during their trip; and non-refundable, non-transferrable trip cancellation expenses for customers who purchased their plan prior to Jan. 22, 2020, for trips that include stops in mainland China, South Korea or the Lombardy or Veneto regions of Italy, who are departing prior to Apr. 1, 2020.

Customers may also change their plan’s effective dates to cover a new or rescheduled trip. Alternatively, for a temporary period, the company is offering refunds for the cost of the customer’s travel protection plan for trips canceled by travel suppliers due to COVID-19, as long as no payable claim has been filed under that plan.

“This is undoubtedly a difficult time for both travelers and the travel industry,” said Mike Nelson, CEO of Global Travel Insurance at Allianz Partners. “By taking these steps today, we want to support our customers in a very meaningful way. Our ultimate goal is to help both our customers and our distribution partners to navigate what we hope will be a short-lived but admittedly very serious situation.”

New York allows CFAR coverage
At the same time, on Mar. 6, the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) issued a letter to travel insurers and travel agents stating that Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) benefits may be sold in New York by an insurer if necessary or incidental to its travel insurance business, and that non-insurers may also provide CFAR benefits if they are not sold as an insurance product.

The letter further said that “COVID-19 may be a basis for trip cancellation/interruption under a travel insurance policy. Under New York law, CFAR benefits in the travel context do not technically qualify as insurance because the cancellation of a trip “for any reason” does not depend on the occurrence of a fortuitous event. Accordingly, there are two alternatives for providing CFAR benefits to travelers in New York.”

The New York DFS informed insurers that they must “make CFAR benefits generally available to consumers, without requiring the purchase of a standard insurance policy from the insurer. If CFAR benefits are sold to a consumer who is also purchasing a standard travel insurance policy, CFAR benefits must be reflected in a standalone contract that is separate from the insurance policy.”

Having resisted offering CFAR benefits as other states allowed it, New York DFS admitted in its Mar. 6 letter that “as the market has evolved, DFS appreciates that CFAR benefits have become a significant part of the travel insurance market.” It noted that, for example, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Travel Insurance Model Act authorizes insurers to sell CFAR benefits, while recognizing that they are not insurance.

“Accordingly, we expect that insurers should be able to demonstrate that CFAR benefits are necessarily incidental to being able to provide a full array of consumer protections so long as those benefits are not conditioned on a fortuitous event, and are generally available and not dependent on the purchase of a standard insurance policy from the insurer.”

The DFS instructed travel agents that they or other non-insurers “may sell CFAR benefits so long as those benefits are not conditioned on a fortuitous event. We remind travel agents that they cannot provide travel insurance or require it to be written as a condition to issuance of the CFAR contract.”

In March 2019, Travel Market Report asked a New York DFS spokesman to explain the law that prevented the state from letting insurers offer CFAR coverage. They wrote: “Insurance is designed to provide protection against an unforeseen event that occurs by chance or accident over which an affected person has no control. ‘Cancel for any reason’ allows the purchaser to control the event that would lead to payment, which we deem not to be insurance.”

When asked last March whether the state has ever, or would consider allowing CFAR insurance, the spokesman declined to comment to Travel Market Report, saying the state does not discuss its regulatory deliberative process.

In the Mar. 6, 2020 letter, the DFS also reminded travel insurers and other related industry members that COVID-19 “may be a covered peril under a travel insurance policy. Pursuant to Insurance Law § 3452, trip cancellation/interruption insurance is authorized as a property-type of insurance, regardless of the underlying reason for the cancellation/interruption so long as it is fortuitous.

“Accordingly, authorized travel insurers may provide travel insurance that provides trip cancellation/interruption coverage if the insured’s trip is canceled or interrupted due to an epidemic or pandemic. A travel insurer can also provide coverage specific to COVID-19. In either case, the trigger for coverage must be stated clearly in the policy. Nothing in the New York Insurance Law or regulations promulgated thereunder requires a travel insurance policy to exclude coverage for an epidemic or pandemic.”
