Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens invites guests to immerse themselves in the nostalgic magic of the season with this year’s holiday display, ‘Twas, now through January 4. Inspired by the classic poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore, ‘Twas unfolds through a series of sentimental scenes celebrating the spirit of generosity, tradition and family bonds, bringing visitors back to cherished holiday memories.

Imagined by designer Ed Libby and brought to life by Bellagio’s Horticulture team, the Conservatory display combines breathtaking floral arrangements and festive décor to bring the enchanting story to life, transporting guests into a beloved holiday dream. Adding to the experience, the Peppermint Express returns, serving delicious treats baked by Bellagio’s talented pastry chefs.

“This year’s theme offered us a special opportunity to create an experience that brings out the nostalgia of the holidays,” said Libby. “By blending iconic holiday elements with a comforting, dream-like atmosphere, we’ve crafted a display that even the most sophisticated adults can enjoy with childlike wonder. I feel this is our most traditional, quintessential holiday Conservatory ever – it’s designed to evoke warmth, joy and the unmistakable spirit and emotions of the season.”

West Bed
At the heart of the West Bed, an impressive 45-foot holiday tree towers above the scenery crowned with a glistening Swarovski star, dressed in over 35,000 mini-LED lights and covered with 8,700 ornaments. The awe-inspiring fir from Burney, California commands attention while the Peppermint Express miniature train chugs merrily around its trunk. Nearby screens feature a special ground-view feed of the train’s journey, immersing visitors into the scene. To the right of the bed, a stunning gingerbread house is lit from within, decorated with ruby red hearts, snow-like icing and the signature Bellagio “B,” complete with smoke escaping from its chimney and elves adding finishing touches. A vintage-style carousel invites guests to reminisce, with its handcrafted regal horses and ornate canopy adorned in red, green and gold embellishments. Oversized ornaments and vibrant poinsettias blanketing the ground, while trees of all sizes sparkle with lights and decorations, adding to the display’s holiday grandeur.

North Bed
At the center of the North Bed, whimsical stockings hang above a crackling fireplace, each filled with surprises for eager children. The gentle tick of an elaborate timepiece builds anticipation for the excitement of Christmas morning. On the left of the bed, a magnificent crimson sack overflows with handcrafted toys, while an elf playfully rides a wooden rocking horse nearby. A timeless scroll bearing the story behind ‘Twas leans against a stack of oversized gifts on the right, adding to the display’s nostalgic charm. Across the bed, poinsettias and holiday trees decorated by skilled elves bring seasonal warmth, while chandeliers and candlelit sconces hang above. Enchanting LED screens display winter scenes set to a bespoke holiday soundtrack, accompanied by the scent of a Sugar Plum Fairy-scented candle, available for guests to purchase as a keepsake from the Giardini Garden Store.

East Bed
The East Bed features a striking, gilded sleigh pulled by two elegantly dressed reindeer made of botanical elements. Perched atop a mountain of beautifully wrapped presents, an adventurous elf awaits, ready to embark on a journey delivering joy across the globe. Visitors can stroll along a walking path winding through the magical scene, lined with red poinsettias and a snow-covered railing, discovering the intricate details that make this display a true work of art. A floral sculpture of pinecones, holly berry and tree branches soar above the glimmering holiday trees and botanicals below.

South Bed
The grand Bellagio bear, Drum Major Dolly, proudly shines as the star of the South Bed. Dressed in her ceremonial red uniform with gold shoulder tassels, Dolly radiates cheer as she plays along to the beat of the season’s melodies. Two spectacular chandeliers glow softly overhead, representing the exquisite craftsmanship of the display. To the left, a dedicated elf scales a ladder, adding finishing touches to this collaborative masterpiece by Bellagio’s Horticulture team. The vibrant red and white poinsettias, larger-than-life ornaments and snowy trees enhance the bed, signifying hope, love and prosperity.

Peppermint Express
Guests craving a festive refreshment can visit the Peppermint Express pop-up to enjoy holiday-inspired offerings created by the Bellagio Pastry Team. Assorted treats and beverages are available for purchase in the Conservatory alcove behind the South Bed across the OMEGA Boutique from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily. After Thanksgiving, hours will extend from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily. Menu items include holiday cookies, peppermint meringue, chocolate candies, holiday nougat, popcorn, drip coffee and hot chocolate.

Sustainability at the Conservatory
Water used in Bellagio’s Conservatory and Botanical Gardens comes from on-site underground wells that use rain and recycled water from the resort, avoiding the use of municipal potable water. The water in the Conservatory is also recycled throughout the exhibit and reused at the resort. Bellagio’s water conservation efforts are part of MGM Resorts International’s overall sustainability commitment.

At the conclusion of each display, plants and botanical material without remaining viable life are separated for collection by a local composting facility. The organic waste is made into compost products to help improve the environment. This method of recycling keeps thousands of pounds of waste out of local landfills and turns it into something that improves the region’s soil, air and water quality.

‘Twas 2024 Holiday Display by the Numbers

  • 110,000: Energy-efficient light bulbs on the trees
  • 20,000: Poinsettias throughout the display
  • 7,500: Preserved red and black roses on Drum Major Dolly
  • 8,700: Ornaments on the holiday tree
  • 1,000: Red feathers on Drum Major Dolly’s cap
  • 80: Team members who bring the display to life

ICE!, the annual holiday tradition at Gaylord Hotels, runs through Jan. 1, 2024. Using more than two million pounds – or 1,000 tons – of ice, the amusing Warner Bros. holiday classic, ‘A Christmas Story™’ will be brought to life in ice sculpture form by a team of 40 world-class ice artisans from Harbin, China. The holiday celebration continues with performances from “Cirque: Spirit of Christmas,” ice slides, Christmas activities and a visit from Santa Claus.

This year, guests will experience over ten scenes from the hilarious family tale in hand-carved sculptures made of ice. Featured scenes include the old man’s major award, Aunt Clara’s pink nightmare, the ultimate triple dog dare at the school’s flagpole and more. Colored ice, clear ice, and LED lights are all used to create the display.

Starting with more than 6,000 massive ice blocks, the carvers work approximately six weeks – more than 12,000 man-hours – to create the nearly 17,000 square foot frozen attraction. The artisans, using skills passed down through generations, follow a 300-page design book to create the ice spectacle. Ice carvings range in size from details as tiny as a coin to soaring scenes more than 30 feet tall. The environment will be kept frozen by a state-of-the-art chilling system that maintains the attraction’s temperature at nine degrees Fahrenheit. Guests will sport a signature blue parka to stay warm.

The carvers will travel more than 5,700 miles from their homes in Harbin, China to Aurora, Colorado. Known as “Ice City,” Harbin is home to the world’s largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival in the world. At Gaylord Rockies, some of the same artisans who create the Harbin festival will carve 300-pound blocks of ice into the larger-than-life, whimsical scenes. Carvers will use chisels, chippers, tongs, handsaws, grinders and even chainsaws to bring “A Christmas Story” to life.

“ICE! has been a tradition at Gaylord Hotels for two decades now,” said General Manager, Suzy Hart. “This is the first time Rockies has put on ‘A Christmas Story’ and watching people come together to enjoy it never gets old.”

In addition to the amazing ice sculptures from the fan-favorite Christmas movie, guests can also take rides down the two-story-tall ice slides and traverse through ice tunnels and arches. The ICE! experience concludes in a separate area dedicated to the Nativity scene, meticulously carved, and shaped in a dramatic display of crystal-clear ice.

While ICE! is the signature attraction for Christmas at Gaylord Rockies, “Cirque: Spirit of Christmas” returns for another year with dazzling costumes, breathtaking aerial performances, and feats that defy gravity. The original Gaylord Hotels production will feature high-flying stunts, acrobatic feats, elaborate staging, and a dramatic musical score directed by renowned Broadway Director Neil Goldberg. This Cirque-style show centers on Noel, a child dismayed by the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Throughout the 65-minute show, Noel is visited in dreamlike chapters by trapeze artists, acrobats, aerial silk performers and others who help rekindle the Christmas spirit. The show will be performed by an international cast of 25 artists hailing from Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Ethiopia, Czech Republic, Mongolia, Russia, and the U.S.

Here is a rundown of other events, live entertainment, hands-on activities, and exciting attractions taking place this holiday season at the resort:

•    Guests can test their winter wits inside the Naughty or Nice Escape Room. Yuletide trickster Jack Frost is back with his icy antics and has added new names to Santa’s infamous Naughty List. But Jack has a deal to make – if guests can sneak into Santa’s office and solve a series of puzzles, their names will disappear from the Naughty List. Guests need to put on their holiday thinking caps on, solve the mystery, and then dash away, dash away, dash away all!

•    One of Santa’s top toymakers teaches the secrets of becoming one of St. Nick’s helpers and leads the new elf students as they create a special keepsake gift or craft to take home for someone special in Elf Training Academy.

•    Christmas creativity runs wild in the Gingerbread Decorating Corner. Achieve confection perfection with edible art, and enjoy a sweet meet-and-greet and photograph with Nutmeg the Gingerbread Man.

•    Guests can chat with the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus, to make sure they have secured a spot on his prestigious Nice List. Santa will meet guests inside Mistletoe Village from Nov. 17 through Dec. 24 before he heads back to the North Pole for his gift-giving journey. Father Christmas’ Library is presented by DEI.

•    Join the jolliest hostess during Mrs. Claus’ Christmas Traditions for a fun-filled celebration. Delight in the retelling of the Christmas classic, ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas, sing along to favorite holiday songs, and share a batch of Santa’s favorite snack – warm, fresh-baked Christmas cookies and ice-cold milk.

•    Also in Mistletoe Village, guests can experience Build-A-Bear Workshop®. Guests make their own furry friend, take part in the iconic Heart Ceremony, and personalize with seasonal outfits, accessories, sounds and scents.

•    Reindeer Games™ Scavenger Hunt featuring Rudolph and The Misfit Toys. The Misfit Toys are all lost, and they need you to find them! With Rudolph’s help, follow the clues to find the Misfit Toys and send them on their way to their new homes.

•    Yuletide Street Market in Mistletoe Village features wall-to-wall holiday gifts, collectibles, toys, plush, home décor, apparel, ornaments, branded merchandise, and more.

•    Relâche Spa at Gaylord Rockies features Winter Wonderland massage, facial and pedicure treatments, highlighting the benefits of eucalyptus. The aromatic plant is known to be high in antioxidants, to promote relaxation and reduce pain.

Overnight guests will enjoy perks including:
•    “Chill Pass” privileges to ICE!, offering front-of-line access and shorter wait times. “Chill Pass” is free for eligible guests. Attraction tickets are required and sold separately, in advance.
•    An invitation to “Extra Cool Hour,” which provides early-entry into ICE! and Mistletoe Village one hour before it opens for day guests. “Extra Cool Hour” is free for eligible guests. Attraction tickets are required and sold separately, in advance.

Also being unwrapped this year are Christmas at Gaylord Rockies packages that include special room rates and admission to select events. Guests are encouraged to book their experiences early, as advance online reservations are required for all ticketed events. Tickets are limited to many of the experiences. For tickets, more information, or to book an overnight stay, guests may visit ChristmasatGaylordRockies.com.

The Nevada Ballet Theatre presents The Nutcracker at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Celebrating its 50th year, the company’s annual performance has become a local holiday tradition. Choreographed by James Canfield, NBT’s iteration of the classic ballet is a magical journey through a larger-than-life world filled with waltzing flowers, nimble fairies, and moonlit snow. The holiday classic runs from Friday, Dec. 9 to Saturday, Dec. 24.
Tivoli Village will be transformed with thousands of twinkling lights, a 40-foot holiday tree, ornaments adorning its fountain, and wreaths and garlands. The open-air shopping center in Summerlin will present a tree-lighting event on Wednesday, Nov. 23, featuring carolers, Santa visits, complimentary horse-and-carriage rides and more. The carriage rides and live entertainment continues throughout the season on Fridays and Saturdays.

The holiday season in the Nation’s Oldest City, St. Augustine began with Nights of Lights. And there is even more for which to be grateful this year for the businesses and residents who have repeatedly bounced back after a challenging storm season.
“We reopened on Saturday with all but one exhibit intact…we thank our grounds crew and everyone who helped us to quickly and safely reopen the park,” said John Fraser, owner of Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth Archeological Park.
Charlie Robles, General Manager, The Collector Luxury Inn and Gardens said, “I will never cease to be amazed at the resiliency of St. Augustine. Within 24 hours after Nicole, the local hotels, shops and restaurants were up and running as if there was no storm at all!”
Nights of Lights has been listed among the top 10 holiday light displays in the world by National Geographic. During this festival of lights, downtown St. Augustine glows with holiday magic – from the ground to the rooftops, millions of tiny white lights create a festive holiday season atmosphere in the Nation’s Oldest City, and it’s free of charge.
“We are grateful for the actions of the businesses and the city and county governments following the storm to make our destination ready for the Holiday Season,” said Richard Goldman, President & CEO of St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau.
Nearly all tourism businesses on Florida’s Historic Coast are fully operational. To make planning for visits to Florida’s Historic Coast, the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau has published a list of open businesses.

During the Christmas season, Munich Airport offers passengers and visitors a wide range of services in numerous stores and restaurants. Comprehensive hygiene measures are in place to ensure the necessary protection against infection.
The outdoor beer garden of the airport brewery “Airbräu” in the Munich Airport Center invites to a cozy stay during the winter season. Blankets and radiant heaters at all seats, rustic huts and hot drinks provide warmth and a Christmas ambience.
Special warm-up drinks include homemade warm egg liqueur and traditional mulled wine. As a seasonal treat, the Airbräu brew master is now serving the strong winter beer “Krampus”. The winter beer garden will be open until March 15, 2022.
The access to the beer garden is restricted to vaccinated and recovered guests with appropriate proof of health.
During the holiday season, Airbräu will once again offer different festive menus for takeaway – including the popular “Duck to Go” along with wine, side dishes and pastries.
For those looking for suitable gift ideas, Munich Airport is the right address as well. All special offers can be found at: www.munich-airport.com/holidays.
When approaching the airport during the Christmas season, travelers are greeted by a magnificent 12-meter Christmas tree. The tree is decorated over a period of several days with around 120 fairy lights consisting of 1,800 LED lights making it a real eye-catcher.
